Lesson 11: ㅋ (Kieuk)

Good day Everyone 😃

Welcome to lesson 11: ㅋ !

We are on our eleventh consonant ㅋ (Kieuk) today.

Let's try to pronounce it !

Did it sound similar to what you have imagined or pronounced?

We have that "i" sound and near silent "u" sound again.

How do we pronounce ㅋ (Kieuk)?

As you know our "i" will be pronounced as 'ee.' so we have "Kee"

"Euk" is tricky but it is similar to "eup" & "eut" from our previous consonants. The "u" is near silent again and so it becomes "e(u)k."

So we have "Kee-E(u)k" as pronunciation.

"Euk" is quite tricky so do listen to the audio clip above multiple times to have an idea !

How does ㅋ sound in Korean words? ㅋ is equivalent to "K" sound.

Think of the word "Kind." The "K" sound before "ind" is what you want to have in mind !

Not too difficult right?

Let's try with the activity. You can practice Kieuk and K sound.

ㅋ(Kieuk/K)  (New page will open)

Fun fact: you probably have seen Koreans using ㅋ itself many times on the internet.

This is equivalent  to lol (laugh out loud) in English ! This is internet slang term which was used since the 90s !

I will be posting lists & explanation of  Korean slangs or abbreviations soon so you can see what Koreans are saying on internet ! 😁

Alright ! We are done with our eleventh consonant ! We only have three more to go 👍

On our next lesson, we will learn consonant ㅌ(Tieut).

Stay safe and I will see you on the next lesson 😊
